How to Use the Hario V60 Dripper Correctly

Brewing coffee with the Hario V60 is simple but requires precision. With the right technique, you can enjoy a consistently excellent cup of coffee.

Step-by-step brewing guide:

• Prepare the filter – Place a paper filter in the dripper and rinse it with hot water. This removes any papery taste and preheats the coffee vessel. Discard the rinse water.

• Add the coffee – The recommended ratio is 15 g of coffee per 250 ml of water. Add the coffee to the filter and gently shake it to distribute the grounds evenly.

• Bloom – Pour in three times the weight of the coffee in water (e.g. 45 g of water for 15 g of coffee) and let it rest for 30–45 seconds. This releases excess CO₂ and helps improve extraction.

• Main pour – Slowly pour the remaining water at approximately 90°C in circular motions, moving from the centre towards the edges. Maintain a steady pouring pace and avoid pouring directly onto the filter.

• Finish extraction – The entire process should take 2:30–3:30 minutes. Once all the water has drained through, remove the dripper and stir the coffee.
